Curse of Chucky - first official stills

So the first official stills of Curse of Chucky were finally released!
I'm very curious about how Chucky will be in this movie. I did like Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, but of course, this movie will be much like Child's Play, so I'm quite excited to watch it.
A remake of the Child's Play movies would also be nice, but this will do for now!

In Curse of Chucky, Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in town to help settle their mother's affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica's plans for the future, Barb's young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household. Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn't know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He's determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he's going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end.

Let the countdown begin!

Review: The Amityville Horror (2005)

The Amityville Horror
IMDB rate: 5,8
Genre: Haunted House

I actually quite like this movie. I've seen it so many times already and I think the movie is really under appreciated. I've never seen the original so I can't compare the two but I really like this version. It's quite scary and the first time I saw it I didn't like the movie, but after seeing the movie again, I quite liked it!

George and Kathy Lutz and their three children move into a house that was the site of a horrific murder a year before. They decide to keep the house and try to keep the horror in the past. This is until, George starts to behave weirdly and their daughter, Chelsea starts to see people. What now follows is 28 days of sheer terror for the family.

The cast of this movie is amazing. Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George and Chloe Moretz. I thought it was a bit weird seeing Ryan Reynolds in a horror movie, since I always see him in a comedy. Ryan Reynolds is a terrific actor and he acted amazing, he was so convincing and he totally freaked me out a few times. I always like Melissa George, but I discussed her already in my previous 30 Days of Night review. But then there is Chloe Grace Moretz. Still very young in this movie, and again she's friends with some creepy kid. But even in this movie you can see how talented she is. I think she might also become a horror queen because she's only sixteen and already played in 7 or 8 horror movies. I wouldn't mind seeing her often because I think she's amazing.

The movie has quite some scary parts, not only is Ryan Reynolds being scary, there are also ghost like creatures showing up suddenly, which causes quite some jump-scares.
I think Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George are an amazing couple and I felt there was some connection between them, but as a couple in the movie, it felt like they weren't married that long. The children still needed to get used to them and stuff like that, it was like they met, immediately got married and moved to this house. Of course, this is useless information but it's just something I noticed.

It's sad that in these movies it has to take so long before the people that are being haunted leave the house. Sure it's not easy to move suddenly, but if stuff like that keeps happening I figure that you can't be really happy or feel at home. When the ending came near and George Lutz went mad all the doors and windows closed, what I always wonder in these movies, why the people don't even try to break the windows! I did like the ending though, in many movies it's the same standard where everybody gets killed or the attacker gets killed. I liked how they came up with the solution to drag George away from the house, I would be quite sad if he died, since in the beginning it seemed to be such a happy family.

I really enjoyed watching this movie again. I think it's really under-appreciated. The cast of this movie is amazing and the movie is also quite scary if you ask me. I really recommend watching this if you haven't seen it yet. Some moments with the indians seem a bit ridiculous but it's worth watching the entire movie.

Review: After.Life (2009)

After.Life
IMDB rate: 5,9
Genre: Supernatural, Thriller

After.Life might seem like a video game at first, because of the dot in the middle. I can assure you that it's just a movie. It's a very confusing movie in which you can make up your own mind about the truth. These movies always have some things in it that don't really fit which make you question everything all over again. The first time I saw After.Life I thought it was a strange movie, but now I've seen it again I like it a bit better, but it's still a bit confusing.

After a horrific car accident, Anna (Christina Ricci) wakes up to find the local funeral direction Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson) preparing her body for her funeral. Confused, terrified and feeling still very much alive, Anna doesn't believe she's dead, despite the funeral director's reassurances that she is merely in transition the the afterlife. Eliot convinces her he has the ability to communicate with the dead and is the only one who can help her. Trapped inside the funeral home, with nobody to turn to except Eliot, Anna is forced to face her deepest fears and accept her own death. But Anna's grief-stricken boyfriend Paul (Justin Long) still can't shake the nagging suspicion that Eliot isn't what he appears to be. As the funeral nears, Paul gets closer to unlocking the disturbing truth, but it could be too late; Anna may have already begun to cross over the other side.

So the plot evolves around Anna who is the funeral home, not sure if she's alive or dead. Eliot Deacon says he has the gift for seeing death people and many things suggest that she is indeed dead. The entire movie you keep guessing what the truth is and every time you think you you've figured it out, something will happen that makes you think otherwise, again.

The acting in this movie is very good. But I don't like Christina Ricci as an actress. Even in this movie, she plays a bitch, she's a huge ass to her sweet boyfriend for no good reason and well, you just don't give a damn about her to be honest. I do think that many male watchers enjoy her presence in this movie though, since she's naked most of the time ;).
Justin Long does play his part very well, I do enjoy him more in a comedy but he did a good job. His character is very sweet and because of him you keep wondering if Anna is dead or not. Liam Neeson plays a very different role compared to his usual roles, I do think he did a good job, but I'm not sure if the role really suited him.

A thing that did bother me was when Paul finally was close the Anna and he called her name, she did not respond. The first time she kept screaming while he was far away, and when he's at her door she doesn't do anything. Sure, that's what kept the mystery going but even when you know you're dead I think it's an impulse to call your loved one.
The movie is a bit slow at point, this is also because you want to know the answer, and with all the dialogue and stuff, the answer doesn't come very fast. The dialogues were a bit confusing at some points.

!Spoilers!
When the movie was finished I figured that Anna was dead. Although there were still some doubts, I made up my mind and decided that they just make it appear like she's alive. But I still was quite curious what the truth was. So I searched IMDB and there it was! The director said that Anna is actually alive the entire time. One of the clues was the breath on the mirror, we saw it all, but it still makes you doubt, because everything after and before that moment proves that she's death. Another clue is that Eliot Deacon gives Anna injections with the given reason that it makes her skin shine, a fact is that injections have no use when there is no blood flow. There's also said by a cop that there are injections that can slow the heartbeat that much that someone can appear dead. He gives the name of the injection and apparently the name is shown on one of the injections.
When I read this, the entire movie changed for me. At first you think the movie is about a dead girl who can't accept her destiny, but when you figure out that she was alive the entire time, you suddenly see Eliot Deacon as a psychopath. Eliot Deacon is in fact comparable with Jigsaw, because at one point, he gives them a change to escape, but apparently, nobody ever goes away because they're that much into believing they're death. He gives a second change to person who don't appreciate their life.  It's an excellent plot twist, and knowing this, it made me appreciate the movie a lot more.
!End of Spoiler!

This movie is one that not everybody can appreciate. You need to be patient and go through a lot of confusing dialogues, also, you need to be focused the entire time to figure out the truth. It's nice to figure the answer out for yourself in the end, when you made up your mind, the entire movie changes. The acting is good and there is an interesting plot.

Review: 30 Days of Night (2007)

30 Days of Night
IMDb rate: 6,6
Genre: Vampire

I think 30 Days of Night is a fairly good vampire movie. The vampires look scary and they luckily don't sparkle. It has been quite some time since I last saw this movie and while I still like it, I do like it a bit less. The movie is quite slow and not really logical.

In Barrow, Alaska, seventy percent of the population of five hundred and some dwellers travel on the day of the last sunset, since the town will stay alone for the next thirty days without sun light. Sheriff Eben Oleson and Deputy Billy Kitka find several cell phones burned on the road. Then they receive a call from the local caretaker saying that all his sled dogs have been slaughtered: later Eben finds the operator of the cell tower decapitated. He arrests a troublemaker drifter and the stranger frightens him by saying, "they are coming and the locals will be dead." Soon Eben discovers that the town is under siege by a gang of bloodthirsty vampires and with a few survivors, they hide in an empty attic waiting for the next sunrise.

The movie has a solid cast. Josh Hartnett portraits Eben Oleson and I think he does that quite well. I like seeing him in a horror movie like this. He shows power, is good looking and of course, an excellent actor. Also, Melissa George is in this movie. She's absolutely my horror queen. No Scout Taylor-Compton for me, just Melissa George. And, Ben Foster in a surprising role. Now I must say, Ben Foster always plays a surprising role. The first time I saw him, it was in Alpha Dog. Alpha Dog is one of my favorite movies ever, and he plays such a dick-head in it, I hated him for it. But after seeing him in more movies, I actually started to like him. He has portrayed so many different roles and even in a fairly small role as this he amazes me.

I like that this movie is set in Alaska. This is not very common in movies but I think it has a perfect atmosphere in a horror movie. Funny fact: The movie was not filmed in Alaska, but in New-Zealand, mostly during the day. Even though it is not really in Alaska, it gives a very nice twist.

The vampires in this movie are quite scary. Like I already mentioned, they don't sparkle and instead of only two fangs, they have their entire mouth filled with fangs. Instead of biting in the neck they brutally kill of people. Also, when they walk they keep crying/screaming/arghh'ing, this was a bit ridiculous to be honest. I think they do it to stretch their jaws or something. Either way, it looks weird. Also, vampire kids are being shown in the movie, as if a killer kid wasn't bad enough, it now has a mouth filled with fangs too.

Some points I did not understand. Why did the vampire come to this town? Sure, it's 30 days dark, but after those 30 days, you have nothing to it. What are their motives to come there? Also, they searched some houses but definitely not all, why not? I think they needed blood so why not search for the survivors? Where were the vampires even hiding, what were they doing for 30 days long. What if the 30 days were over? I missed a bit of action in this movie, the vampires are not even shown that much and when they're shown there is not much explained. Of course, it is possible that I missed some parts.

The movie has quite some jumpscares. Also, a lot of blood. I liked the scene with the 'killer-truck', it was a nice way to get rid of many vampires and it looked awesome. The movie is a bit slow sometimes,  there is a lot of hiding, so many whispered dialogues.

30 Days of Night is a good vampire movie. But I do miss a bit of action in it. The vampires are quite scary and the setting of the movie is really nice. There is an amazing cast which provides very good acting. There is much blood and the ending is quite nice. The movie is a bit slow sometimes unfortunately.

Review: À l'intérieur (Inside) (2007)

A l'interieur (Inside)
IMDB rate: 6,9
Genre: Survival

Yesterday I finally watched Inside. Many people recommended this movie to me but to be honest, I'm not really sure what to think of.

I did not dislike it, but some parts were a bit weird and useless. The main focus of this movie seemed to be to show as many blood as possible. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but a nice story next to it would be nice.

Four months before Christmas, Sarah and Matthieu Scarangelo were in a car crash, of which Sarah and her unborn baby were the only survivors. On Christmas Eve, Sarah stays home alone, where she grieves her husband and prepares to go to the hospital the next morning for the delivery. As night falls, a woman knocks on Sarah's door asking to use the phone. When she refuses, the woman reveals that she knows Sarah and tries to force her way in. Sarah calls the police; they inspect the home and determine the woman has left, but promise to keep watch over Sarah through the night. The woman returns and tries to take Sarah's unborn child, but Sarah locks herself in the bathroom. The strange woman torments Sarah through the night and kills all who try help her.

The movie had some weak point and some very good point. Some of the good points were that she actually called the police immediately. In many horror movies it's the standard story, that there's not reach for the mobile or the telephone is broken or something. No, the police actually showed up. Also, the possibility that some close ones of Sarah can visit her is ruled out immediately at the beginning. The bad point is that Sarah apparently didn't hear anyone of her relatives coming in, so she doesn't scream for help. She actually never screams for help, which is kinda weird since someone is trying to kill her.

Sarah has a really bad day, that's for sure when seeing this movie. Everything that can go wrong, goes wrong. This movie actually evolves while it's running, it goes from depressing to cruel, from cruel to extreme and from extreme to nearly unwatchable. Some might say completely unwatchable. The movie keeps you in his grip because whatever happens, you keep on watching because you want to know why it's even happening. I've seen movies that are worse, but I can imagine that many people can't stand the gore in this movie. It's filled with gore and at some points you question the moviemakers if they made this movie for the gore or for the actual story. The story itself is not that special, there's no depth and no suspense. It's not really scary either.

At some point in the movie I had an immense WTF moment. I'm quite sure that many people thought the same thing as me, because when one of the 'killed' police officers stands up and begins to bash in on Sarah's belly, you're quite sure he's a zombie. He looks like a zombie and he acts like a zombie, what else can you make of it as a horror fan? Well, luckily it wasn't a zombie, it was just some dude with his eyes shot out what makes him a bit angry.

It's a shame that the story isn't that good, else I might have liked it much more. The acting is fairly reasonable, the camera and lightning are very good and the violence scenes look really good. It has a bit too many unbelievable details in it. Also, the main character Sarah isn't really interesting. And then there is this CGI baby that shows up now and then, which looks kinda hilarious.

I did not think it was a bad movie, but it wasn't very good either. I definitely think that the 6,9 on IMDb is a bit too high, there are many movies that are a lot better with a much lower rating, which doesn't seem really fair in this case. If you want to see a real good French horror movie I really recommend watching Martyrs, which has a much more interesting plot than this movie. If you don't really care about a deep going story then you might like this movie, it's filled with blood and gore but that's about it.

Review: 28 Weeks Later (2007)

28 Weeks Later
IMDB rate: 7,0
Genre: Zombie

It has been quite some time since I last saw this movie, and in contrast with 28 Days Later I've only seen this movie once. The first time I saw it I thought it was a reasonable movie, but now I've seen it again, I actually quite like it.

28 Weeks Later is a very good movie with an excellent cast. I was a bit disappointment that this movie didn't continue the story of Jim (Cillian Murphy) and Selena (Naomie Harris) because I really liked them in the previous movie. Nevertheless, it's still an excellent movie with this storyline.

28 Weeks Later picks up six months after the Rage Virus has decimated the city of London. The US Army has restored order and is repopulating the quarantined city, when a carrier of the Rage Virus enters London and unknowingly re-ignites the spread of the deadly infection and the nightmare begins... again.

The acting in this movie is excellent. The cast includes Jeremy Renner, Rose Byrne, Robert Carlyle and Imogen Poots and they are all amazing in this movie. I mentioned in one of my previous reviews that I really dislike Jeremy Renner, and I still don't like him as an actor but I must admit that he is quite good in this movie and I definitely think this is one of his better performances. Seeing Robert Carlyle as a zombie is also very amusing.
The images in this movie are also shot amazing. Again, an empty London. I still can't get over the fact how difficult that must be to achieve. Some parts were a bit hard to follow though, too shaky and too much going on, which makes it difficult to follow the story. The director is not Danny Boyle this time, but Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, someone who I'm not familiar with, but I must say that he did an excellent job with this movie.

There are a lot more jump scares in this movie compared to 28 Days Later, some scenes, like the night-vision scene in the subway, are quite scary. I also like how some people can be immune for the virus, it gives an interesting twist to the story and proves that not all hope for humanity is lost. The scene that I enjoyed most was the Helicopter scene, where all the zombies were chopped by the propeller. Filled with blood and body parts, amazing.

I'm still hoping for 28 Months Later to come someday. At some point there actually was an IMDB page for it and there were some plans for it, but unfortunately, it was cancelled all. I believe Danny Boyle did react on the possibility of 28 Months Later and I believe he said that it will probably never happen. It's quite a shame because I think it can be an amazing ending for a trilogy. Crossed fingers!

28 Weeks Later is a solid movie. Great cast, beautiful images, the right soundtrack and I think the storyline is quite nice. I really enjoyed watching this movie again and I think it's an excellent sequel for 28 Days Later.

Review: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
IMDB rate: 5,9
Genre: Vampire

This weekend I finally watched Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. At first I wanted to see this in the cinema, but it of course was in 3D, just like every other movie I want to see, so I had to wait till I could download a decent one.

I expected quite a lot from it, the trailer seemed fun and it gave a different image of Abraham Lincoln. I haven't read the book so I did not know what to expect. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed when watching this movie.

In the Nineteenth Century, the nine-year old boy Abraham Lincoln witness the vampire Jack Barts sucking the blood and killing his mother. Years later, Abraham Lincoln seeks revenges against Jack Barts but he fails in his intent of killing the vampire. He is saved by Henry Sturges, who becomes his mentor and teaches how to hunt and kill vampires. Henry sends Abraham to Springfield to kill vampires. He gets a job and lodging in the store of Joshua Speed where he meets his black friend Will Johnson. Abraham also dates Mary Todd but keeps his vampire hunter business in secret. After killing Jack Barts, he calls the attention of the powerful and ancient vampire Adam. Abraham becomes a politician and the President of the United States, and sooner the leader of the Secession War against the vampires.

This movie happens to be about Abraham Lincoln, but it could have been about anybody. The fact that it is about Lincoln seems to be just some factor to keep the story interesting, but it has absolutely no use. At the beginning I thought this movie would be about Abraham Lincoln chasing the murderer of his mother, he did but it was soon over. Then it started about Mary Todd and her boring boyfriend, so Abraham basically stole her from him. Then he's suddenly the President of the United States and it's about some confusing story about slavery, and suddenly there are a few angry vampires so of course there is a vampire war. I seriously had the idea that I missed something while watching this movie because it jumped from on storyline to another. There never seemed to be one full storyline that went from beginning to the end, which was really annoying.

The movie is filled with slow-motion, at first it's not that bothering, but if every tiny bit of action is in slow-motion, it's starting to get really annoying. I think the movie could have been at least 15 minutes shorter without all the unnecessary slow-motion effects. Sure, it looks cool. But seriously, every action moment in slow-motion, just a big no.
Also, too much CGI. Everything looked so fake. The vampires, the horses, the action. It just doesn't look good.

I can't complain about the acting. It wasn't very bad. The one who stood out was definitely Benjamin Walker who portrayed Abraham Lincoln. When he grew the Abraham beard he actually looked quite a lot like him. Unfortunately, the movie is filled with lame dialogues so he doesn't good look in it, at all.

There is a different vision of vampires in this movie. For example, they can't stand silver. And, they can appear in sunlight (they don't sparkle). They also can be invisible and they can't kill each other. It also appears that if one vampire tries to bite a human, and another vampires sticks his arm between the vampires mouth and the humans neck, the vampire can bite the other vampire. I don't know where it went wrong with that last part, since the last time there appeared an invisible barrier between them...

This movie was rubbish and quite a waste of time. The acting is fairly good but it doesn't do any justice in this movie. The plot is terrible. The action is ridiculous and the vampires are weird. It might be nice to watch this movie once, and I'm glad I watched it, but that's mainly so I know that I don't have to watch it ever again.
I am curious about the book though, I've heard that the book is quite good.

Review: A Haunted House (2013)

A Haunted House
IMDB rate: 4,8
Genre: Comedic, Found Footage

This weekend I finally decided to watch A Haunted House. I really enjoy the first two Scary Movie and since this movie is written by Marlon Wayans, who also wrote parts of Scary Movie, I thought this must be an enjoyable movie. It's not as good as Scary Movie, but not as bad as some people are saying. You recognize a lot of the same things that's also going on in Scary Movie, and while we've seen it all already, it still quite funny. Some parts were extremely boring, but there were also a few parts that were  really funny. Sure, it's a bit overdone, and there were more boring parts than funny parts, but it's still not a bad movie to watch. Just don't look at it too serious.

Malcolm and Kisha move into their dream home but soon learn a demon also resides there. When Kisha becomes possessed, Malcolm - determined to keep his sex life on track - turns to a priest, a psychic, and a team of ghost-busters for help.

I must say that all the funny parts involved Marlon Wayans. All the other parts were just kinda boring. This movie really resembles Scary Movie a lot, it's filled with sex, drugs and jokes. And well, after seeing it that many times it's not really fun anymore. Sure, some of the things were, but because it were moments that were so typical and predictable, it's taking down a lot of the comedy. Especially the parts were a lot of talking was going on were boring, it had no further use for the movie and well, in my opinion it could have been filled with good jokes instead of talking that is supposed to be funny, but definitely is not.
The acting is not that great, but for a movie like this, it's not really bothering.

The idea of a parody movie is fun, but in the last few years there came so many terrible parodies, that you can't take the genre serious anymore. It's not supposed to be serious, I know, but I mean it in a way that they're so terrible, that I don't want to watch any parody anymore,

This movie mainly is about the found-footage genre, such as Paranormal Activity and The Devil Inside. But instead of making their own story around these found footage movies, they just copied everything literally and put some jokes in it. What I liked about the first two Scary Movie was that you noticed of what movie they made fun of, but it still had an own story. A Haunted House does resemble the later Scary Movies a bit more in that case, because in those movies it was also too obvious what movie they made fun of. Jumping from one movie to another, in an obvious way. I hope it's not too confusing what I say, it's a bit hard to explain ;).

I liked some parts of the movie, but most of it was rubbish. It's an enjoyable movie too watch if you're not taking it seriously. Also, you must be quite patient while watching because some parts are quite boring. Don't expect too much from it, because it simply isn't much. It's nice to watch it once, but I know that I probably won't watch it again. It's bad, but not terribly bad.

My personal rate: 4,5/10

Review: 28 Days Later (2002)

28 Days Later
IMDB rate: 7,6
Genre: Zombie

If you've read my Top 10 zombie movies list, you know that I put this movie on the second place. I've seen this movie quite a lot already and it still doesn't bore me. I think I'll watch 28 Weeks Later tomorrow if I have some spare time, 28 Weeks Later is definitely a lot less good than 28 Days Later, but it's still a fun movie to watch.

I really like this movie. There is a great cast, an amazing setting and quite different from most zombie movies if you ask me. The director of this movie is Danny Boyle. I enjoy most of his movies, especially Trainspotting, but in my opinion, this one is his masterpiece. It's a shame he didn't direct 28 Weeks Later, because I think it would have been a lot better in that case.

In a top secret British lab, animal activists release a monkey infected with a highly powerful and contagious test virus, despite the begging of the scientist in charge of operations. 28 days later, the infection has gone from one monkey to the majority of the UK, the host of the virus is lost in a murderous state, losing all logic and instinct. Jim, a courier, wakes up from his coma in an empty hospital, to find that the streets have been heavily littered and are empty. His fear began when he saw no one. His terror erupted when realized he wasn't alone.

The actors in this movie are amazing. Cillian Murphy is one of my favorite actors and he never fails to amaze me. In the beginning of the movie he was quite a pussy, but luckily he got really badass at the ending.
Somebody who I really noticed was Naomie Harris, I mainly knew her as Tia Dalma in Pirates of the Caribbean, and well, I barely recognized her in this movie. She's quite outstanding and a very badass character.
A character that I didn't really like was Hannah, her acting was not that great, nevertheless, it did not ruin the movie.

The images in this film are absolutely excellent. It's brilliant that they actually managed to shoot some scenes in important parts of London, instead of just using green screen, they actually managed to get the London Bridge empty.
The music is also well chosen, especially the music in the last scene inside the mansion. It's so intense and so good, that it actually gave me goosebumps. For me, it's quite something because I normally don't really pay attention to the music in a movie, but in this case, it really stood out.

I love how many differences there are in zombie movies. The zombies are portrayed different in every movie. The appearance is different, the infection time varies a lot and then there is the difference about walkers or runners.
I liked how the zombies were in this movie, but I thought their appearance was a bit lame. Of course, there is not ultimate vision of how a zombie looks like, so it's a bit wrong of me to complain about this. I like the virus variant of a zombie. Of course, the origin came from the death rising from their graves. But I don't think there's anything wrong with this kind of zombie apocalypse.

I like this movie a lot, but I know that many people dislike it. For example, I know that all my friends hated it, while I loved it. The acting is great, amazing music and especially excellent camera work.

My personal rate: 9/10

Review: Final Destination 3 (2006)

Final Destination 3
IMDB rate: 5,7
Genre: Supernatural

I thought, since I watched Final Destination 1 and 2, why not watch 3 too! I will stop at 3, because I don't own 4 and 5 and they're not worth downloading. Maybe someday I'll buy them on DVD when they're cheap or something, or when they're on television, but until that day, this will be all ;).

It has been quite some time since I first saw this movie. I think it's the very first Final Destination that I ever saw, and I really liked it back then. But now, after seeing Final Destination 1 and 2 a day before, I don't like it that much anymore. The idea is not really original anymore and everything is quite standard and predictable.

When Wendy Christensen has a vision of an accident on the roller coaster, resulting in her and her friends' deaths, she instantly begins to panic, causing more of her friends to be left of the ride. The remaining friends including Wendy's boyfriend, are stuck on the roller coaster and find themselves involved in the accident. With death waiting around the corner, Wendy and Kevin must try and work out death's plan, before they and the remaining survivors end up dead.

I must say that watching these three movies in a row is quite boring. The setting is different but the story is exactly the same. When you watch these movies separately they are fun to watch, but in a row is just like watching the same movie over and over again.

I must say that the acting in this movie was a lot better compared to the previous two movies. There were only two girls that were annoying but that also might have been the role that they played. I am a big fan of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, she's an amazing actress and also in this movie she's outstanding. The rest of the actors weren't that special, but I don't think this movie needs great acting. The storyline isn't very special but it is quite amusing when you're looking for a not-so-serious movie.

The deaths in these movies are different. Most of them are way too far-fetched, but they're fun to watch. Final Destination is always filled with skull bashing objects and that never fails to amaze me. Even though it looks fake and is far-fetched, it's amusing.

A thing that started bothering me in this movie is the endless build up to the next kill. Somebody accidentally touches something, from that moment on it's 5-10 minutes of things that are falling or moving what will eventually lead to a persons dead. We know it, he or she will die. Don't waste movie time with showing the entire reaction of somebody touching an object. In the previous movies it was also there, but not that obvious and annoying. It's like they did not know what to do with the spare time, so they did this instead.

Even though it got a bit boring after watching three of the same sort of movies in a row, I don't dislike Final Destination 3. It's a fun movie to watch with an enjoyable story. It's always filled with gore and good images. I just recommend not watching all Final Destination movies in a row, because in that case, it gets boring. I liked this movie better than Final Destination 2, but it's in no way better than the first Final Destination.

Review: Shark Night (2011)

Shark Night
IMDB rate: 3,9
Genre: Predator

So yesterday this movie was on television. It's definitely not a good movie, but I must admit that I did expect a lot worse. I expected a movie like Piranha, but with Sharks. I think this movie is a lot better than Piranha to be honest. I don't think many will agree with me, but I personally disliked Piranha so much. Piranha was all about tits and blood. And well, that's what I expected from this one as well, but luckily it was only about blood! Also, the story is a lot more logical.

Don't get me wrong, it was a bad movie. But it could have been worse. The acting is absolutely not good, even though there are quite some good actors in it. The dialogues were terrible and the sharks looked awful. Many people say that this movie is a rip-off from Jaws, but I haven't seen Jaws yet so I can't discuss that.

When 7 college friends pack their swim suits for a weekend of fun-in-the-sun activities at their friend Sara's lake house, they think it will be the perfect vacation. But the tables immediately turn when the lead football star, Malik, gets his arm ripped off during a water skiing accident. While the friends are to believe his wound was a freak accident, they soon come to discover that there was a primal attack involving a shark. Now while they think that one shark is no problem, they soon come to the realization that 15 species of sharks are lurking in the water, and with no form of boat or transportation, and no signals for phones, the group of seven now face a fate they would never imagine. Being fed to these sharks by crooks for real life footage on an Internet website.

This is one of those cliche filled horror movies. Friends who are going to a vacation house on an abandoned place. A football star, nerd, weirdo, cheerleaders and a shy girl. This movie is everything that Cabin in the Woods makes fun of. We've seen these movies a thousand times and we all know how it will end. Shark Night is absolutely not an exception for this standard.

It's a sad thing that every horror maker keeps going on with this horror cliche. If you make a horror film, you have so many options, and everything that those people make is a movie that we've seen a thousand times already, only with a different setting. You think people know better by now, but apparently not.

There are really good actors in this movie. Which is quite sad, because why appear in a movie like this if you're so good! For example, Sara Paxton, she plays in one of my favorite horror movies The Last House on the Left. She was so incredibly good in that movie. Her acting was flawless, and in this movie... it's shit. There's absolutely no emotion in it. Or Joshua Leonard, he plays in The Blair Witch Project, one of the best horror movies of all times, and then he plays in a piece of shit like this. Such a shame.

There are many horror movies that are so bad, it's good. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. If the animation were a bit better, it might have been. But those sharks look like they were made in Microsoft Paint or something. They look terrible. It's like they didn't even try creating a real looking shark. With creating this movie there was absolutely not used any creativity. Not in the script, not in the animation, nothing. When they did use a bit more creativity, this movie might have been so bad, it's good. But it's really just a crap movie.

I do not recommend watching this movie. It's unrealistic and terribly made. I do think it's a better movie than Piranha to be honest. So if you really want to watch a terrible sea creature movie, I do recommend this movie over Piranha. But then again, there are also pearls like Two Headed Shark or Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (*sarcastic*). So why even bother ;).

Review: Final Destination 2 (2003)

Final Destination 2
IMDB rate: 6,2
Genre: Supernatural

I don't think I've ever seen this movie before. It's kinda strange since I've seen them all and I own this one for a long time already. I was convinced that I've seen it already but apparently not.

The movie was definitely not as good as the first one. Sure, the setting changes but the story can never change. So there's not much new in every movie. I wouldn't say that Final Destination 2 is a bad movie, because I sure had fun watching it, but even when I haven't seen the movie yet it's not really surprising anymore.

Whilst heading onto the main road, Kimberly Corman has a vision of a huge car accident. Halting yp the traffic, Kimberly is horrified when the accident actually happens. Kimberly links the occurrence with a similar event a year earlier. Researching up on Clear Rivers, Kimberly discovers that death's pattern has been disturbed, meaning everyone who was originally supposed to die, will now encounter a freak accident, including her! Kimberly and the rest of the survivors, must work with Clear to try and stop Death from repeating it's process.

In the beginning of the movie, the acting was terrible. It didn't sound real and the group of friends seemed to have no connection at all. After a while the acting became a bit better, but still wasn't very good yet. It's definitely a lot worse compared to the previous movie. It was nice seeing Clear Rivers back again, even though Kimberly was this unthankful bitch, she still came to help them. She was one of the better actors in this movie, it's quite something that I say this because I'm not really fond of Ali Larter as an actress.

The first thing that bothered me was the highway scene (the vision) it took way too long. There was all this nonsense going on that had nothing to do with the story and it almost made me lost interest for the movie. Also, when Kimberly gets her vision, they are driving for a while already on the highway, but when the accident actually happened, it was only a few yards across from the drive already. This totally doesn't fit the vision but there were also many other things that didn't fit in my opinion. For example, the death order. It's said that Death is working backwards but even then it still doesn't fit. It's way too difficult to discuss all of this but I don't think it was in the right order. Also, what about Kimberly's friends, why are they not that much in danger that they need to be warned? They would've died in the crash too so it seems to me that they are just as important?

The death scenes in this Final Destination were better than the ones in the first movie. Some of them were lame, but most of them were really original. Unfortunately, you don't really have a chance to start caring for these people, so in most cases you don't give a shit that these people die. That was one of the better things in the first Final Destination movie, you got to know the people, and you would actually care if they'd die.

The ending was a bit lame, how is that even logical. "Let's just drive my van in this lake so I'd die. I will just sit still in my chair until somebody saves me from the bottom of this lake. I won't help breaking open the door because I'm too busy dying. Just call Dr. Whatshername and she will reanimate me and now we all live." I'm sorry but that was really lame.
The very last scene was kinda cool though, a bit unexpected, which made it really nice.

I thought this was a reasonable movie. It has a few bad things, but if you overlook that it's a fun movie to watch. At least, I did enjoy watching it and I'm excited to watch the third part next week.

Review: Final Destination (2000)

Final Destination
IMDB rate: 6,7
Genre: Supernatural

I thought it would be time to watch Final Destination again. It has been quite some time since I last saw it and since there were so many sequels these movie kinda got a bad name. I remember seeing the fourth of fifth movie and it was not that good, but I couldn't remember much of the first parts anymore. I own the first three on DVD so I'll probably watch them all again this week. I'm also still planning on watching Scream 4 and Resident Evil 4 and 5 but that can come later.

The movie is actually quite decent but the sad thing about Final Destination is that you know how it will end. Everybody dies eventually. And when they survived, they will still die. So, after 5 of these movies you know the drill. But, since this is only the first on, it's a decent movie. Unfortunately it's not very surprising anymore after you watched it once.

Alex and his senior french class are going on a trip to France in the spring. Alex is very nervous, and has a deadly premonition that the plane he is on will explode after take off. Alex and six others, including his teacher, get off the plane. Soon after, the plane explodes. Now his teacher and friends are starting to avoid him. Shortly after school ends, Alex and his friends are being hunted down by Death, angry that they cheated the "design". It doesn't take long for Alex to realize that you can't cheat death!

There are many familiar faces in this movie, for example Devon Sawa (Idle Hands, Slackers), Ali Larter (Heroes, Resident Evil) and Seann William Scott (American Pie, Dude, Where's My Car). While these are pretty famous actors, this movie was not really their best acting work. It was not terribly bad but it was not like their usual acting.

I like the storyline, everybody has fears that the plane may crash. So in this case it's kinda logical that they got upset. What I don't understand is why everybody got angry at Alex. He saved 6 people by getting off the plane and suddenly he gets accused of being the cause of the plane crash. Not really logical if you ask me.

The death scenes were kinda lame. They were definitely too far-fetched. Like the first dead, how is it even possible that the wire got around his neck that many times, just by falling. The death scene of Billy was kinda cool but unfortunately his dialogues were so lame and predictable that it was too obvious what would happen next. Final Destination is familiar for it's far-fetched death-scenes so I won't continue complaining about it.

I think this movie is nice for seeing once or maybe twice, but absolutely not more often. When you've seen it once you know the story and the only thing that can still make you guessing is the order in which everybody will die. I do like the concept of the movie though, it's very original. Well, it was original until they made all those sequels. But this one was original at the time ;). The talks about 'Death patterns is really interesting and really makes you think. The movie isn't really scary in my opinion but it does have some very tensed moments. The movie mainly relies on 'sudden-deaths scare jumps'. The special effects were decent, some looked very fake but others looked real.

I personally liked this movie quite a bit. It had some flaws but not any bothering ones. There's an interesting storyline but a bit predictable at times. It's a very original movie and definitely worth a watch.

Review: Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)

Resident Evil: Extinction
IMDB rate: 6,2
Genre: Zombie

And I also finished watching the third movie of Resident Evil: Extinction. I really liked this movie, I think it's almost equally as good as the first one.

I love how it's expanded each time, the first movie the virus has expanded within the building, in the second movie the virus has expanded within the city and the third movie the virus has expanded in the entire world, the movie only plays in America though. I'm excited for the fourth movie to see, I think I might watch it this weekend. I didn't hear much good about it, but I think it has big potential. They can go so many ways with the story so I'm quite excited to watch it.

Years after the Raccoon City disaster, Alice is on her own; aware that she has become a liability and could endanger those around her, she is struggling to survive and bring down the Umbrella Corporation led by the sinister Albert Wesker and head researcher Dr. Isaacs. Meanwhile, traveling through the Nevada Desert and the ruins of Las Vegas, Carlos Olivera, L.J., and new survivors K-Mart, Clair Redfield, and Nurse Betty must fight to survive extinction against hordes of zombies, killer crows and the most terrifying creatures as result of the deadly T-Virus that has killed millions.

I was so glad that this movie was a lot better again. In my experience, once a sequel is bad, it won't get better. But luckily, I was proved wrong, once again.

I mentioned in one of my previous reviews that I played the demo of Resident Evil 4 or 5, and I think one of the scenes in this movie was the same as in the game! I'm not sure, but it did resemble it a lot I guess. I could be wrong since it's been quite some time since I last played it. Anyway, if this is indeed the case, then I like it even better.

I also thought the Raven scene was really cool. In most zombie movies, the birds are never affected by any virus. So it's kinda nice that in this movie the birds are affected by it. It's also very logical that the birds are affected by it, but somehow most movies tend to forget that. Also, in the previous movie, the dead were actually rising from their grave again, which gives Resident Evil +2 points! A thing that i kinda lame, every dog that is infected seems to be a Doberman. This is kinda strange because those dogs are really uncommon (at least, where I come from).

The acting of Milla Jovovich is again magnificent, she is what makes these movies so good. Nothing to complain about. But again, I have to complain about other actresses again. Ali Larter in this case, I'm sorry but I'm just not really fond of her. I don't know why, but I'll have to admit that she wasn't that bad in this movie.

Another fun thing that I'm starting to notice, in every movie there is some sort of 'End Boss', just like in games. I think it's some sort of tribute to the games, I don't know, and while it's getting a bit obvious, it's not bothering or anything. There were also finally more zombies! I feel like the action is getting a bit pushed back, there is still some Milla action, but it's not like a true action movie anymore. I don't mind of course, because I'm a fan of horror.

I absolutely recommend watching this movie. It's a real good zombie/action movie with a good story. I do recommend watching the previous two first because else it might be confusing. I'm excited to watch Afterlife this weekend, I'm hoping this will be another good one!

My thoughts about the Saw movies

In the last couple of weeks I managed to watch all the Saw movies, if you ask me, that's quite something because they are most of the time terrible to watch. I already wrote a review for each movie, but I thought a quick summary might be useful.

The movies are listed from best to worst, unfortunately, it's not really a surprising list ;).

7. Saw V
I think this is were the movies start getting really annoying. Saw IV was terrible already but Saw V is just that tiny bit more terrible. They screwed up with making Saw IV and that's just the point where they should have stopped making these movies. Of course, they should have stopped after making the first one, but that's forgiveable. What's not forgivable is the fact that they made even more sequels after the first two. The movies are so predictable after this point, it's not even necessary to watch any of them to clear things up, because things will never be cleared up in these movies. I gave this movie a 3/10.

6. Saw 3D
Okay, I'm going to ignoring the fact that these movies shouldn't have been made. This movie could have been an interesting movie with the reappearance of Dr. Gordon. But, they made up some weird story with only a little influence of Dr. Gordon in it. The traps were awful and I still have no clue were the beginning was useful for. The only thing that I liked about this movie was seeing old faces again, since it wasn't always clear if someone survived or not. I gave this movie a 3/10.

5. Saw IV
Such a big mistake continuing the third movie. The movies are getting so confusing at this point, all the things about Kerri and Hoffman and whatever everybody's name was, it's going on until the seventh part with just some time filling torturing. Complete nonsense. I gave this movie a 3,5/10.

4. Saw VI
The reason why this is on the fourth place is because it had a bit of a logical story. In Saw IV, V and 3D, the story was random without a logical explanation. This movie somehow was logical, but that doesn't make it any less terrible. There are so many things that don't fit in these movies. In one movie something is told, in the next movie there is added a lot more to that story and in the movie after that is something like 'drop everything you know and now learn this new story!'. I gave this movie a 4/10.

3. Saw III
This movie was brutal. It was nasty in every way and that's what made this movie decent. The storyline was crap but the torturing is kinda cool. The traps are really original and it's also incredibly disgusting. I gave this movie a 5/10.

2. Saw II
Saw II is definitely the best Saw-sequel. The story is still logical and while it's already going nowhere, it's acceptable. The movie is not unbearable to watch and the traps are actually kinda decent. Not brutal-like as in Saw III. I gave this movie a 5,5/10. The reason why it's not higher is simply because it's a fact that everything after the first one should never have been made.

1. Saw
Not so strange that this movie is first. It's absolutely brilliant. It's not about torturing, sick games or any of the things that the other Saw movies were about. It's so much better. The story actually fits and there are no mysteries yet. Well there is this small mystery of what happened to Dr. Gordon but even when you don't find out, it's not bad because you can think for yourself what might have happened. It's such a shame that they continued making these movies because it gave this movie a bad name. I gave this movie a 8/10.

Best Saw actor:
Leigh Whannell, I don't know, I liked his character Adam a lot and he should have survived. Other good actors are of course Danny Glover and Donnie Wahlberg.

Worst Saw actor:
Well, everybody besides the three listed above? I really disliked Costas Mandylor a.k.a Hoffman though.

Hardest trap to watch:
The one where a guy had rings into his entire body, attached to chains was kinda nasty. This was in Saw III.

Review: Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

Resident Evil: Apocalypse
IMDB rate: 6,0
Genre: Zombie

Yesterday I posted by review of Resident Evil, where I already said that I never watched any of these movies. Nor did I play any of the games. I really liked the first one but the sequel was a lot less fun. I'm also watching Extinction today so also expect a review of that one coming up.

I immediately watched this movie after the first one and because I was so impressed by the first one I expected quite a lot from the sequel too. Unfortunately, it was a big mess in my opinion. It was mainly a very confusing movie. There was absolutely no attempt to rescue any of the survivors which was apparently done so the infection wouldn't spread but if they weren't bitten, they weren't dangerous I guess, so why not save them? If the virus was in the air, it was impossible to contain the virus within the city. Nuking the city might only have effect when it was done immediately.

Alice, having escaped from the Umbrella facility, finds Raccoon City overrun with the undead. Along with a group of survivors that include Jill Valentine, she must find the daughter of Dr. Charles Ashford, who will then provide them with a way out of the city before it is nuked by Umbrella in a cover-up attempt. Meanwhile, they are being hunted by the Nemesis, another one of Umbrella's experiments.

The thing I liked about this movie is mainly the aspect that the dead were actually rising out of their graves again. This indicates that the virus has spread through the air, which makes it obvious that nuking the city would be useless. The movie focused a bit too much on useless things in my opinion, for instance, I don't really get what the purpose was of the fight between Nemesis and Alice, sure they wanted to test who the strongest was, but why there, on that moment? They could have used Nemesis for killing the undead, instead, he kills the living (mainly soldiers). So mainly, I don't get Umbrella's motives.

Milla Jovovich is again excellent in her role as Alice, while the movie was not that good, she was what made it better. I did not like the character of Jill Valentine. She was annoying, not a good actress and her part was not that clear to me. I think she's supposed to look like a tough girl, but I only thought she was annoying as hell. The rest of the actors were also not that great. There was no one that stood out for me besides Alice herself.

There is still not much zombie-screen time, mainly because it's more of an action movie instead of a horror. It would have been much better in my opinion if there were more zombies, this would have shown better what kind of threat there was out there.

This movie was not really great but not terribly bad. It might be a necessary to watch this movie in order to follow the third part, Extinction, but since I haven't seen that one yet, I can't say for sure. I'm currently watching Extinction, and I already like this one a lot more than Apocalypse. It might be a fun action movie to watch, but I personally did not thought it was that great.

Review: Resident Evil (2002)

Resident Evil
IMDB rate: 6,6
Genre: Zombie

I finally watched Resident Evil. I'm a bit ashamed to say this, but I've never seen it before. I have the first four Resident Evil movies on DVD but I never got around watching them. I also watched the second part, Resident Evil: Apocalypse and of course a review of that one will also be up, somewhere this week. I'm planning on watching Extinction and Afterlife too, but I'll probably have to wait for the fifth one, Retribution, a while longer since I haven't got that one on DVD. I could download it but most of the time it's shit quality so I'd rather wait for a cheap DVD.

I really enjoyed watching this movie. It was definitely not what I expected from it. I expected a lot of violence, zombies and not so much story but the movie was actually quite good. The second one however was a big disappointment to me, but I'll come back to that in my next review. After seeing the first two movies, the first being good and the second being not so good, I'm a bit afraid that Resident Evil will become one of those never ending stories (Saw, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween etc.) since there's also a sixth part coming next year. Of course, I can't judge this yet since I've only seen two of them. I did hear that the third one, Extinction, was a lot better than Apocalypse so we'll see.

A virus has escaped in a secret facility called "The Hive," turning the staff into hungry zombies and releasing the mutated Lab "Animals" that they were studying. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent infection. The Parent corporation sends in an elite military unit, where they meet Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computer and get out, fighting their way past zombies, mutants and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly returning memories.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's a whole different concept compared to the usual zombies, which is actually quite nice. The acting in this movie is really good. I'm not really familiar with Milla Jovovich, I've seen her once or perhaps twice in a movie but I don't believe they were big parts, because I can't remember her well. Anyway, I did like her in this role. She really seemed badass but also with a good and sweet side. Her acting is great and as I already mentioned, I didn't like the sequel that much, but it definitely wasn't because of her. She fits this role perfectly and also the casting of her coworkers is solid. The only one that I didn't like was Michelle Rodriguez, it's not really because she's a bad actress or something, I just don't like her. She always plays the same kind of girl and it's really boring after a while.

I don't think this movie resembles the game a lot, of course I'm not sure since I only played the demo version of Resident Evil 4 or 5 and couldn't even survive that, so I couldn't really tell for sure. I does not really mind I guess because if the movie resembles the game too much, people might only watch the movie instead of playing the game. So that's not a bad thing, but again, I'm not sure.

The only thing that could have been better is the zombie-screen-time. It's said that The Hive is a company with thousands of employees, and yet you only see fairly small amounts of zombies. Most of the time, the hallways are clear, so a bit more zombie action would have been great. This being said, I'm not sure if Resident Evil is a real horror movie. I see it more as an action movie, but with zombies. There is not much suspense and it's definitely not scary.

This movie was definitely better than what I expected. Everyone that like a good horror/action movie this is an excellent choice. Milla Jovovich is a great choice for portraying Alice and when I'm honest, I don't think she could have been portrayed better. While the sequel, Apocalypse, was not that good, I'm still looking forward to see Apocalypse.

My personal rate: 8/10
